Shelley Whitman Associates knows every crisis holds the potential for opportunity. Amidst the pandemic, arts and humanities academics faced layoffs, while classrooms abruptly shifted online—often without much support or preparation. In response, a passionate group of individuals saw a chance to make a difference. Shelley Whitman Associates emerged to bring together the expertise of humanities academics, filmmakers, and digital media specialists. Together, we’ve tried to form a new kind of media collective designed for collaborative creation–teaching and learning from each other, and from the departments and faculty, organizations and businesses our media serves.

Since the pandemic, the delivery systems surrounding teaching and learning have been transformed, but the fundamentals of good pedagogy remain unchanged. By engaging with faculty at every step of the media creation process, we ensure our content aligns seamlessly with their aims and objectives, allowing us to create educational media that compliments and enhances teaching, and never tries to replace it.

 A few months into media creation, our friends and family began seeking our assistance in navigating the new digital and social media landscape for their businesses. Leveraging our expertise in collaborative media creation, we began venturing into commercial media. We produced commercials for local businesses like landscapers, home clean-out companies, digital marketers, tutoring services, and new book publications. With each video, our clients witnessed the clear storytelling of their businesses and experienced business growth through the power of advertising. We are now expanding to build on our commerical media work by developing and managing social media campaigns for our clients. Our aim: to insure a healthy ROI, and help our clients foster ongoing, profitable relationships with their customers.
